Delete your account

This document is available in English and Portuguese. The English version is the reference for people using the app outside Brazil.

This page exists because Google Play requires every app that creates accounts to offer a way to delete them from outside the app as well — for anyone who has already uninstalled Nimo or lost access to their device.

We don't ask for your email, phone number or name. That's why deletion works a little differently from what you're used to, and why going through the app itself is the fastest route.

1. Through the app (takes a few seconds)

Open Nimo Chat
Tap Settings
Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete my account
Confirm

There is no waiting period and no way to undo it. As soon as you confirm, the account is gone.

2. If you have already uninstalled the app

Reinstall Nimo, restore your account with your recovery code (the same screen where you pick a nickname has a restore option) and follow step 1 above.

If you no longer have your recovery code, write to suporte@chatnimo.com. Since we don't store an email address or phone number, we need some way to identify the account — tell us the nickname and, if possible, the recovery code or the approximate date you created the account. We reply within 30 days.

An honest warning: without the recovery code, there may be no way to prove the account is yours. That's a direct consequence of anonymity — we have no registration record to compare against. Keep your recovery code safe.

What is deleted

When you delete your account, we remove:

Your profile (nickname, gender, bio, interests, profile picture)
Every message you sent, in every conversation, along with the photos, videos and audio they contained
Your feed posts and your statuses
Your friend list, friend requests and your blocks
Your presence record and your position in the matching queue
Your recovery code
The reports you filed
Your anonymous Firebase login — the account identifier ceases to exist

The app's local database, on your device, is deleted too.

What is not deleted, and why

The messages the other person sent to you. They belong to them, not to you. Deleting the entire conversation would mean deleting the history of someone who asked for nothing. The conversation is closed and you disappear from it.

Reports filed against you and the moderation record. If someone reported your account, that record is kept. Without it, deleting and recreating an account would be a way to wipe your record clean, and someone reported for harassment or for content involving a minor would come back as if nothing had happened. That record does not contain your messages or your profile — it holds the account identifier, the reason and the date.

Legal basis: legitimate interest in platform safety and compliance with legal obligations (Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD), art. 7, IX and art. 16, I).

Backups. Firebase keeps backups for up to 30 days. After that period, deleted data disappears from there too.
